I came to know about the Agatheeswarar Temple in Panchesti from Jnana Jyothiamma recently. She told me she had been visiting regularly that temple some thirty-two years ago. After she returned from the U.S.A, she visits the temple again only to realize that there was a shrine for Agathiyar here all the while. She is wondering how she had missed seeing Agathiyar those days.
The next time I saw this temple mention was in Velayudham Karthikeyan Aiya's blog SITHTHAN ARUL at http://siththanarul.blogspot.com/2013/06/blog-post_9.html Karthigeyan had posted a video too of this temple originally uploaded by Srinivasan Janakiraman.
Then Saravanan Kandasamy from Chennai visited the temple and had posted the following praises to Agathiyar on Facebook. He had painstakingly taken down these praises which are painted on the walls of Agathiyar's temple at Panchesti. I share his contribution with you.

Jnana Jyothiamma has some interesting information from Kandhan Kurugal. In her own words,
"Kandhan Kurukal says two years back, he had accompanied his friend to see his (friend's) Nadi. The reading was from Brighu Munivar."
"In that Nadi reading, Agathiyar suddenly came (which he never did) and asked the Nadi reader to pass on the message to Kandhan Kurukal. Agathiyar had wanted an Abhisegam (Full) to be done for him on Sadhayam Star at Pancheshti Temple. Kandhan Kurugal says he was taken aback. Since then the Kurukal has been doing it."
Jnana Jyothiamma's friend Madan too has a story to share on the Panchesti Temple. She writes,
"It goes like this. Seven years back, when Madan found that Panchloka idol of daddy (Agathiyar) in Sethukarai, Rameshwaram. He was instructed in his dream to go and get his nadi read by a person in Chidambaram. On a particular day, he did like wise. In that nadi, daddy asked him to make two Panchloka statues of himself and Loba Amma (Lobamutra) and perform Thirukalyanam to Shiva and Ambal on Visakam star!"

Jnana Jyothiamma fills us in on the relationship between the Kurukal and her,
"32 year old Saga ... still continuing ...the Kurukal who is explaining the history of the temple is Kandhan Kurukal ....We met when we were in our twenties and next meeting in our late fifties. Both of us were tearfilled. He knows my hubby and his family members too too well. Even my son, he has seen as a small child of 5 /6 years old. He connected me to Madan .... and through him Hariharan Battar from Papanasam. Through Hari Battar, daddy (Agathiyar) gave me a kilo Basmam/ Vibuthi .. and his (Agathiyar's) dress .. what he (Agathiyar) was wearing!"

I had recently received a mail from someone called Appu.
"Sir, I am looking for the location of an ancient Shiva temple called "THIRUTHORAGAI". It is intricately linked with the advent and worship by, and, of Agathiya Maharishi. I think the said temple is around Madurai. I wonder if you could use your good offices to get me its present name and location. Regards Appu"
